Youth Song Festival

July 12, 2017

This year we had the chance to visit the 12th Youth Song Festival. The theme this year was ‘I’ll stay’. It mainly focused on the youth and their enthusiasm to stay Estonian forever and carry on their traditions.

Silver Tambur has kindly written on his Estonian World website:

‘The tradition of the Estonian song celebrations dates back to 1869 and has for long been among the most important ways to carry on the national identity and an independent spirit. Indeed, in 2003, UNESCO proclaimed the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration tradition as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

The Youth Song and Dance Celebration is a relatively newer phenomenon – the first one took place in 1962. Happening only once in every five years, it is held at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds and the Kalev stadium – just like its “older brother”, the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration. But unlike the “grown-up” of the Estonian song festivals, the participants of the youth celebration are usually in the age range of 7-27 years.’

In 2019, we will have the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration which is as the ‘older brother’ to this year’s festival. Here are some photos from the 12th Youth Song Celebration.

The most wonderful time of the year

December 27, 2016

Merry Christmas to my lovely readers!

I wanted to share some pictures of my holidays with you. We had the chance to visit Tallinn Chritmas Market with my parents and have a walk around the Old Town on the 23rd.

On the 24th of December, we celebrate Christmas! We got our real Christmas tree up in the room, decorated it, watched a good film and got ready for dinner. After dinner – Santa came! So we had to recite poems, sing and dance to get our presents from him. I love seeing Santa every year, what a cute tradition!

On the 25th we had massive meal with some of my friends in their mansion and had a lovely walk around the grounds.

Christmas has been lovely, I can’t wait until the New Years when my husband’s family is over. I have massive plans for resolutions that I will share later.

Happy Holidays!

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.

Hello lovely people!

I have been super busy lately but here is a small update! Last weekend I ran another 10k! I absolutely loved the event, instead of rushing through it, I kept on enjoying the view of the town of Tartu. I am so glad that I got to take part of it. One of my students, Rasmus was running at the kids’ races and did super well! Rasmus, Suusi and Saale were waiting for me at 9k to give me a boost and got some good photos of me! After the race, I had my alumni party at my secondary school. We had a small walk through Tartu to the car and then drove to Tallinn, my hometown. It was a blast. We chatted and partied away until 1.30 am and then headed  home with Uber. I adore Uber. The prices are so good. Sunday we had a relaxing day, went to my grandparents’ house for lunch and did some preparations for the Teachers’ day which is tomorrow! Also, it was Conference weekend and I love the talks! I will do a post about them at some point. And I will definitely post about Teachers’ day which is a big tradition here in Estonia. Here is my little photocollage of the weekend.
