Midsummer celebrations

June 26, 2017

Hello my lovely readers!

This week has been super busy with our trip to Sweden and then Midsummer celebrations. I would like to share some photos of the different events we attended! The first event was the bonfire in Lohusuu – we arrived in Lohusuu an hour before the bonfire, unpacked and basically went to the party. My husband and my dad had been to Riga for a concert the night before so my dad didn’t have a voice and Joseph was tired haha. But that didn’t stop the first bonfire. We played some games and took part in some competitions like welly throw and used a blowgun. I won the blowgun competition! The kids played some games and we had a nice time chatting to the people of our village. Liina and Lucas joined in on the fun and we headed home for some tea and biscuits. The next morning we visited the Avinurme fayre which was so much fun! We got new strawberry plants and some other bits and bobs. On Friday, we had friends over at the house to have a barbecue and make a bonfire! We played some games, ate great food and did some dances around the bonfire. Lucas taught us a frog dance around the fire! It was hilarious, loved it. For the evening Liina, Lucas, Joseph and I headed to the new cafe in our area, which had a dance night on. Luckily we seen couple of friends there who we could join, as all tables were reserved. It was a good night. It’s amazing how people who say that they do not speak English, speak very good English when they have had a few drinks. On Saturday we decided to take it easy, so played football for two hours and then drove around the tourist spots with our friends. It has been such a busy week/weekend, it is nice to sit here on a Monday morning, enjoy my holidays and just chill in the sunshine.

You lost your independence once before. With NATO, you will never lose it again

That’s the words Barack Obama spoke about Estonia!

We have now moved to Estonia and it has been different but absolutely amazing! We got here right on time for the Independence day celebrations and the start of the new school year. We visited my friend’s house and meet the new residents Triinu and Sass. It was a blast to see everyone I haven’t seen for years. I have been working for almost a week now and been busy trying to settle into our new home. We live in a lovely village next to the lake Peipsi and enjoy beautiful views right from our doorstep. Here are some photos of our new life now!

Change brings opportunity

August 5, 2016

Those of you who know me personally, know that I love traveling. I love seeing new cultures and speaking new languages. My husband has lived/worked in Dubai for almost 6 months now and the time came to decide what we are going to do next – stay here or take on a new challenge.

So we are moving to…

Drumroll…

Estonian Flag

ESTONIA

After careful consideration, weighing pros and cons – we decided to move to Estonia. We have loved our time in Dubai and we do not regret the move but we think that we want to take this step and go back to Europe for a while. Estonia might be just as temporary or permanent as any other place we have lived! I love new adventures and I am excited to embark on this one. I have missed home and my language, I can get my fix of it now.

On another note,

Today I got to see some green in Safa Park! Here are some photos of the park in the middle of big buildings.

GreeneryCity in the background

Arabic gardens

Arabian Gardens

Burj Khalifa

Burj Khalifa in all its glory

We had a lovely day enjoying the sunshine and the park.

Hope you are having a good weekend.

Fountains at night

August 3, 2016

Good morning, my fantastic readers!

Thank you so much for all your views as my blog has now over 1000 hits! I wanted to share some photos with you today! This is the Fountain show at night at the Dubai mall next to the Burj Khalifa. Definitely a show you don’t want to miss. The photos won’t show how good it really is, but I really enjoyed it.

Summer tunes

July 25, 2016

Good afternoon, all my sweet readers!

Hope you are doing well and enjoying your summer! I have been busy as I had a job interview and a presentation to prepare for it, also I have an online course to do. I am very excited to learn new things and embark on a new journey. I am so thankful that I get all these opportunities and can only develop my skills and talents. Anyway, today I thought I would share my favourite summer hits with you! You can access the playlist on Spotify – it is called Ultimate Summer Choons. I will be updating that playlist the whole summer. But here are 5 examples from the playlist…

Zara Larsson – Lush Life

I absolutely adore this song! Just a good beat and makes me want to get up and dance.

‘I’m a dance my heart out ’til the dawn
But I won’t be done when morning comes
Doin’ it all night, all summer
Gonna spend it like no other’

It’s the new dance the night away song.

New Kids on the Block – Summertime

Do I really have to explain this? NKOTB’s first comeback single, summer 2008 was never the same. Also, who can say ‘with your flip flops, half shirts, short shorts, mini skirt walking on the beach so pretty’ as fast as Donnie… As you can tell the playlist has variety of genres.

What a comeback.

Ciara – 1,2 Step ft. Missy Elliott

This song makes me want to work it! The dance moves, the beat and featuring Missy E herself. After watching this video, I regret giving up hip-hop dancing after all those years. I do love a bit of 1,2 step moves.

Let us appreciate Missy Elliott and her confidence, every girl should have this confidence!

‘I shake it like jello,
And make the boys say hello,
Cause they know I’m rockin’ the beat
I know you heard about a lot of great MC’s,
But they ain’t got nothing on me,
Because I’m 5 foot 2,
I wanna dance with you,
And I’m sophisticated fun,
I eat fillet mignon,
And I’m nice and young,
Best believe I’m number one’

DNCE – Cake By The Ocean

Okay, I don’t think anyone else was this excited to see Joe Jonas back! Yes, I had my Jonas Brothers phase… And Joe was my favourite! I am excited that this song is such a hit and definitely is one of my favourite summer songs at the moment, listening to it on repeat. Just brings me back to the days I thought Jonas Brothers was amazing…

Train- Drops of Jupiter

If you have never heard this song – it is time. I have loved this song for ages now and still impressed by the lyrics. Also, I used to like this song when I was little because it has Milky Way in it and I was determined it was about the chocolate! It came out in 2001 and still is a tune. I wanted to share some of the lyrics with you but it was really difficult to choose just a part. However, chose this part and you can listen the rest by yourself!

‘Can you imagine no love, pride, deep-fried chicken
Your best friend always sticking up for you even when I know you’re wrong
Can you imagine no first dance, freeze dried romance five-hour phone
Conversation
The best soy latte that you ever had, and me’

Here are 5 songs off my summer playlist! Help yourself to check the whole list out and I’ll make sure to update it.

Happiness is a day by the pool

July 21, 2016

Although the weather has been far too hot to get outside and get a tan, sometimes it’s nice to have a pool day instead of binging on Gilmore girls. As the summer is here, it is important to cool yourself down and keep your skin safe with SPF. Here are some things that I find necessary for a pool day.

IMG_1295

A book to read, a hat to cover your hair from the sun, bikinis, water to hydrate yourself, sunglasses to protect your eyes, products to protect your skin and a towel to dry yourself after your dip in the pool.

IMG_1298

My summer hat is form Accesorize and keeps me clear from a heat stroke. My bag is from Amazing Charlie and my bikinis are from Primark.

IMG_1302

For my body I use Nivea sun screen (30 SPF) and for my face I use the Vitamin E moisturiser with 30 SPF.

IMG_1304

I have just started this book – I will let you know how it is!

Behind the scenes, taking photos on this hot-hot day.

Hope you are all staying safe in this heat!

Have a great summer!

What it really feels like to live in a hot country?

July 13, 2016

Living in a hot country is amazing, right? It barely ever rains, the wind is always warm and you do not have to collect those coats for winter! The truth is there are pros and cons to everything. Here are some points that I have noticed while staying in a hot country.

  • You do not realise how hot it actually is until you experience it. Don’t believe when people say – oh it’s going to be lovely, you’ll get a tan – No. Most of the time you spend inside to keep yourself cool or covered in SPF 50 to not burn when you happen to be outside. The humidity makes a massive difference, it is not just dry heat that you can hide from in the shade
  • As a person who wears glasses – be prepared to not see. Every time you exit a shopping mall or a cool car, your glasses are bound to fog up! Foggy glasses wherever I go! And it takes a little bit of time for your glasses to adjust to the heat. This means that by the time you’re glasses have cleared up you are probably back inside the mall or hopped into a taxi.
  • You cannot get enough of the pool! It is one place that is supposed to cool you off – sometimes it gets too hot to cool you off but the idea is to trick the mind that it feels cool. Pool games are fun and I find that having pools everywhere is definitely a perk of living in a hot country. Do not forget to wear flipflops or swimming shoes, as the ground is incredibly hot when you get out of the water or when you go in. The sand can actually burn you! At least you can cool your feet down in the water.
  • The sun gets to you. The heat makes you tired. You burn easily without SPF. As much as you try to avoid it, the sun will get to you. You will get your vitamin D dosage and get a slight tan, even if your only contact with the sun is hanging out laundry. You may feel like you need a nap during your day off as you have spent some time out in the heat. That is the way your body copes with heat and tries to keep itself cool.
  • Walking small distances can be a sweaty nightmare. I have done trips to the local shop – no more than 7 minutes of walking and when I get there, I find that the AC is the biggest blessing this country has! My face feels sweaty, my back feels sweaty – where is the ice cream?! I tend to leave the shop with a cold drink and ice cream that I did not plan to buy.
  • Speaking of walking, let’s speak about running. Before leaving Aberdeen, I upped my running game to 13k and managed to do it in 1hour and 16minutes. Now in the heat, I’m back at the bottom, starting from 2-3k. During a run, I constantly have to make sure my heart rate is fine, that I have enough water, that I drink enough water and that my head is not too hot from the sun. I have been running in the morning as it is cooler but I plan to try running at night when the sun is not up at all!
  • This weather, overall…It is good for your health! Sydney Epstein lists 5 reasons that warmth is good for your health. Firstly, you get more sunlight – this means more vitamin D for your body! Secondly, you will be more physical, the sun will motivate you to go out and do things, unless it is actually unbearable to stay outside, you will want to move! And when it is unbearably hot, you return to the pool! Thirdly, research shows that the heat improves your memory – so all my loved ones who are getting older, you better come and visit! Fourth, Sydney writes that death rates are lower in warmer climates (yay!). Lastly, hot weather is better for your heart and lungs… say that to my body when I try to run.
  • You will get used to it eventually. The weather is only unbearably hot for 3 months out of 12 months in Dubai. Your body gets used to it and 20 degrees in the winter will feel cold. I am just waiting for the day it will feel normal that my flipflops are melting in the sun!

I can’t wait until my friends and family come to visit and experience this all by themselves! Maybe not the melting flipflops…

Lots of love,

Triinu x

It’s still magic even if you know how it’s done.

July 9, 2016

This Friday, the 8th of July, we had the chance to drive to Abu Dhabi to see Jamie Raven. As it is a 1h and 30 minute drive to Abu Dhabi, we decided to leave after lunch to find the venue, have a nosey around the town and grab some tea before the magic show. As it is Eid Mubarak, the roads approaching Abu Dhabi were empty!

Firstly, we found the venue – the Emirates Palace. It is absolutely massive! It was so beautiful and golden that I felt underdressed haha! We had a little nosey around and checked out where the car park is and took some photos.

The Emirates Palace

After the Emirates Palace, we headed to the Marina Mall to check some shops and grab dinner. Had dinner at Fuddruckers, their burgers are amazing and the service was lovely. After our dinner, we had the chance to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show for kids and looked around some more shops – absolutely love the dresses at Bebe!

After visiting the mall we had some time to walk around and drive around a little before heading to the venue.

Back at the Emirates Palace, we had a walk through the hotel and headed to the auditorium to wait for the show.

Cheeky selfie – absolutely love my Debenhams jumpsuit!

Waiting for the show to start – it was totally worth it. Jamie Raven did his illusions that he performed on Britain’s Got Talent as well as new ones. My favourite trick included an iPhone and the calculator app! I will add a video of Raven performing it on TV at the end of this blogpost.

IMG_2824

We were so chuffed to meet Jamie Raven himself! A lovely genuine person who enjoys what he does in his life. Absolute inspiration.

Jamie Raven gave us a signed poster and signed our tickets.

The show was mind-blowing, on our way back to Dubai, we were just listening to tunes and trying to think how he does what he does! Oh well, Magician’s code, eh. It was my first proper magic show and I can’t wait for the next one!

Jamie Raven on TV – here is the magic trick I really enjoyed with the numbers!

Lots of love,
