Hello my lovely readers!

So this week I had the chance to visit Sweden with my colleagues. It was not my first time in Sweden, but I love a bit of Sweden every now and again. We took the cruise to Stockholm and back. We were lucky with good weather and no strong winds to rock the boat. But we totally rocked the boat haha. We had the chance to visit the King’s palace in Stockholm as well as museums and get a taste of the food culture by eating some cinnamon rolls. We also saw the Estonian school in Stockholm. Our tour guide was my lovely friend Liina who lives in Sweden. We walked through Galma Stan and headed to the port by foot. The weather for a walk around Stockholm was perfect.  On the cruise we checked out the midnight shows, first on was the summer of Rock and the other was dedicated to Swedish songs. My friend Kertu was one of the dancers in the group called Dance Factory, they did a really good job. Also the live band was good so we got to dance the night away to some good live music. Here are some photos from our short but cute trip to Stockholm, Sweden.

Jäääär at jõekäär

June 15, 2017

Hello my lovely readers!

Sorry for the lack of posts this past few weeks. I have been really busy! Today we had an open-air concert at the village where we live. The performer was an Estonian group called Jäääär which means The Edge of Ice. It was definitely a good way to spend a nice summer evening.

Hope you are enjoying the long summer nights.

South of Estonia

June 2, 2017

Hello my lovely readers!

This week was the last week of the school year, so we had a lot of interesting events throughout the week. We finished it off with a road trip to South Estonia. It was absolutely stunning and can’t think of a better way to celebrate the end of the first year of teaching. We had so much fun and got to spend time with the coolest people! When I got back, Joseph surprised me with flowers and a lot of yummy food to celebrate my first year of teaching. What a year it has been.

Hope you all have enjoyed the first days of summer!

Hello my lovely readers!

Today we got to spend a lovely day outside, celebrating an important day. One of my good friends Rasmus turned 10! Here are some photos from the day.

Welcome to Finland.

May 16, 2017

‘You’re an unemployed bum. Should you live in that Finnish city by the lake with the S-market and K-market? Or how about that other Finnish city by the lake with the S-market and K-market? Finnish cities are all so very different!”
Phil Schwarzmann, How to Marry a Finnish Girl

Couple of months ago, my grandma and I started speaking about going to Finland to do some shopping and meet up with a family friend. So we decided to go on a day trip for Joseph’s birthday. On Saturday we woke up early to leave for a day trip in Finland. We took the ferry from the Port of Tallinn, the journey takes about 2 .5 hours, so not too bad. Got to enjoy the nice views and our big breakfast on the ferry. The sun was shining when we got to Helsinki. We walked into the city centre to enjoy some sights and go shopping. After that we met up with an old friend who I had not seen for 15 years. He is a Finnish man who can speak Estonian. The first thing he said to Joseph was ‘Welcome to Finland’ in English. When we asked how long did it take for him to learn Estonian – he said 40 years. We had lunch at a restaurant called Zetor.
The restaurant was so cool! It had old farm type decorations and the menus looked like newspapers. The menu was in about 15 languages and had gluten free/lactose free meals. When I was younger we used to go to Finland at least once a year, but I have never been to a place like Zetor.
After our meal and a catch up, we took the metro to the suburb to grab Rauli’s car and go for a ride. We went to Porvoo which is a charming little city close to Helsinki. Most of the houses are made of wood and the Old Porvoo has a beautiful church. I had never been there before so it was nice to have a walk around this beautiful town. The pictures really do not do justice for this place.
We had a drive around Helsinki, visited the Sibelius sculpture and had ice cream in the sunshine. We had so much fun and it was nice to see an old friend. I can’t wait to go back to Finland and travel further.

PS the last photo is of Joseph’s cake on his birthday, we have a tradition to sing the birthday child up in the morning so my parents and I just sang to Joseph in the morning.

Back in the Deen

Hello, my lovely readers!

Last week I had the chance to go back to Aberdeen for a holiday. We went over for Rebekah’s wedding, which I will write about in a separate post, as it deserves a post by itself!

So our flights to Aberdeen were really early so we got to enjoy the sunrise and the early morning views. When we got to Aberdeen, we got picked up from the airport, dropped our stuff and headed to town straight away to get my wedding outfit! I couldn’t believe that I got my wedding outfit in one day! Okay, I got my jacket the next day. Anyway, in the evening we took it easy. Eating all the UK snacks we haven’t had in ages and we just hung out with my mother-in-law and Rebekah and Michael. Had a catch up and chatted about their wedding. Can’t believe it is all over! I hope they have the best honeymoon! That was the last time we had some proper downtime!

We met up with old and good friends. A short recap of what we were up to: I met up with Suzanne for a meal at Cosmo and then got my wedding jacket, honestly, she picked it out within two minutes in the shop! Also, I met up with Olivia who I used to work with at Foodstory, we are the OG’s of the place. So we had lunch at Foodstory, it was so good to see everyone who we saw and enjoy the nice weather. Oh and we saw Colin which made me really happy! He was a regular at Foodstory who we always liked to chat to! Joseph and I also met up with Ethan and Sabine who are getting married this summer – so we have our trip booked for their wedding!

We also had a family Christmas meal so we could be together before the big day. It was good to see all the family come together and enjoy a bit of gravy with some food. On Friday, we had a pre birthday celebration for me, as the wedding was on my birthday. We had lunch with the bride, got Joseph’s kilt fitted, went to the spa for some nice treatments and had a lovely meal at Shahbaaz. I even got a singing cake! If you are looking for a good Indian place in Aberdeen, Shahbaaz is the place to go to! Saturday, we did some walking around the town and our old area as it was a lovely day. I have added some photos of the walk as well. In the evening, Joseph went to the wedding rehearsal and afterwards we watched Gone Girl with Lee and had take away from the chipper. It was such a good night before the wedding.

It was so good to be back in Aberdeen to see our loved ones and share these special moments together. It was a bit weird not to live there anymore, but we have gotten used to living away. So this is a short recap of what we did before the wedding. Next post, I will share photos from the beautiful big day!

Renovating The Bedroom Part 1

March 6, 2017

Hello, my lovely readers.

Some of you might remember that in September we started the renovation of our bedroom. I wanted to share some of the room with you today, the other half is not quite finished yet as we haven’t picked out our closet yet.

The bed was in this corner before we started the renovation, so we decided to put the bed on the same side but the opposite way. The bed was made by Stella’s dad, who has hands of gold! It was personally made for us, which makes it more special.

Here are some more photos of the bed and the chest of drawers in our bedroom. This chest of drawers is older than I am! I love a bit of vintage addition to the room. Also, we got the window replaced with a door so in the summer we could just head straight to the pond from our bedroom. My dad did most of the building, we just followed his lead.

Just found these lovely frames from Koduextra and I am trying to find a place in the house for them! I love making our home feel more like our home.

So this is the update on our bedroom – I can’t wait to show you the other side once it is ready!

Do you like renovating? Let me know!

99 years since this country first saw freedom.

February 28, 2017

Happy birthday, dear Estonia!

99 years ago this country had the chance to become independent and it took it. Although we were occupied again and had to wait until we could gain independence the second time, we are independent right now to celebrate our 99th birthday. The last 4 years I have lived abroad and haven’t had a chance to celebrate Estonia’s birthday. But this year we celebrated with a walk through the forest and a lot of cake!

Also, we had the chance to listen to the speech by our new female president. What an example she is. She is an example to all little girls out there – you can do it! I feel like I would love to meet her and speak to her about her ideas and thoughts.

The night ended with looking at all the lovely dresses at the party and enjoying some Estonian films.

I am so lucky to come from a country like Estonia.

Hello, my lovely readers!

I deeply apologize for not writing more often but life has been so busy! But do not worry, I have a plan about scheduling my blogging into my calendar, so I will be writing regularly. However, today I wanted to tell you about my trip to Barcelona to celebrate one of the last weekends of freedom of my sister Rebekah who is getting married so soon!

The hen party weekend was amazing. So in Scotland, they call it a hen party, Americans might recognise it by a bachelorette party. We had a whole weekend of events planned in Barcelona.

I was the first to arrive in Barcelona, so I just picked a place where I could see all arrivals. Next to arrive was Emily, there were tears everywhere! I haven’t seen Emily since we left Dubai at the end of August and I couldn’t wait to hug her and chat to her again. We were chatting for about 20 to 30 minutes and then arrived the whole Aberdeen crew. By that time, I was too excited to see everyone that I managed to hold back tears in front of everyone. Then we were ready to celebrate Rebekah!

We decided to go for the metro to go to our flats. Once we had the system figured out, we headed towards the town. It was so good to catch up and get to know the metro system of Barcelona. After a bit of a misunderstanding, we managed to get the keys for our flats and got settled in. Remember, this whole time Rebekah had no idea what was going to happen. So once we settled in, we opened a bubbly and let Rebekah read her itinerary for the weekend. It was so cool to hear and see her reaction. Afterwards, we all got dressed up in red/black outfits and our feather boas. We headed out for a Spanish night.

The Spanish night started in a Spanish restaurant with lots of Tapas. Patatas Bravas was definitely one of my favourites! We all got a list of things to do at a hen party – including some naughty things like getting a piggyback ride from a stranger or getting a stranger to wear your lipstick. So some of us started early and started getting that list done right there at the restaurant. So much fun! Tummies full and ready to party, we headed to a flamenco show. Absolutely amazing! Did not realise how difficult flamenco is and hearing the music live, so much appreciation for the musicians and dancers. Definitely will recommend visiting Tarantos when you are in Barcelona. The night was young, so we went to discover the Placa Reial. We ended up in a bar that had a room for dancing, so we danced until the early hours. Absolutely loved being together with the girls again and seeing Rebekah enjoy herself. She deserves it.

The next morning, Emily and I went on a little adventure to get some breakfast and food shopping done. We saw the awesome Sagrada Familia which was a block away from us and discovered our street. It was so nice to catch up and hear how they are doing back in Dubai. Definitely miss the heat while I’m writing this. After our little trip and some breakfast, we headed on a Segway tour. 2 hours of lovely Barcelona! It was so amazing! Robot City Barcelona gave us a tour around the city centre and we saw more than expected. At first, it was difficult to control the segway but by the time we hit the road, most of us realised what they were doing. Although, I wish Barcelona wasn’t as bumpy as it is… Segway tour allowed us to see some sights and enjoy the day. Also, all the instructors spoke Russian so that was a bonus for me!

After the segway tour, we went out for lunch and took some time off to do souvenir shopping and getting ready for the evening. I love souvenir shopping for my family! We saw so many cute things that I wish I could’ve had more time. I got our house a new salt and pepper shakers which I adore! Anyway, after some time off and relaxing, it was time to head out for the night. In Minnie Mouse costumes… I LOVED IT! I would wear my outfit every day if I could.

The start of the night, we were headed to a cocktail training. We learned how to flip bottles and shake the cocktails. We met a group of guys who were having a stag do in Barcelona. The boy is going to marry a Scottish girl so it was fun to hear his view of the Scottish accent. After the training, we found a place to eat. Had some Italian food and headed out to party. We found this cute little Brazilian place called Berimbau, go ahead and visit them in Barcelona. The best service and the best virgin cocktails I have had in a long time. The atmosphere was quite relaxed and they were so kind a lovely and got us some taxis. I will definitely head there once I’m back in Barcelona.

As it was a Sunday, some places were closed but our favourite place in Placa Reial was wide open for a party. We headed back there for a dance and ran into the Stag Do again. Also, there was this one wifey who kept on kissing Rebekah on the cheek and wishing her a happy hen party. Some of the people of Barcelona are unforgettable.

After the bar was closed, we headed to another one before visiting a night club! How exciting a night club in Barcelona. I rarely went to a night club when I was in Uni, so it was exciting as I do love dancing the night away. After dancing and seeing a bit of Barcelona night life, we headed home. Where I had an hour of sleep and headed to the airport as I had to leave a day early due to work commitments.

This weekend was unforgettable. It was all for Rebekah and I know that she enjoyed it, as she deserved to have the time of her life. I enjoyed spending time with family, old friends and new friends. I just wish I could do it all over again, c’mon friends, hurry up and start getting married haha!

I just love travelling, can’t wait until our next trip to Scotland next month.

Lots of love,

Triinu x

Taking on 2017

January 3, 2017

Hello, my lovely readers!

I wanted to tell you more about my new year’s resolutions this year.

Firstly, my main goal is happiness which means I have to concentrate of everything that would effectively help me be even happier.

My mental goal: Last year I spent a lot of time on Instagram, being obsessed with the Instagram perfect life style, so guess what? I gave up Instagram indefinitely. It might be a 6 months hiatus, might be longer. So far it feels better already. I can enjoy things without thinking that I need a good photo for social media.

My physical goal: This year I will beat my last year’s 10k time and do it with my husband! This means working out regularly and trying to build some muscles.

My spiritual goal: Study the scriptures as often as I can and visit the beautiful Temple.

My health goal: Learn new recipes of healthy food and enjoy seasonal food.

Also I have different goals for each month to focus on, not my idea, stolen from pinterest but still brilliant!

January: Get more sleep – it is the darkest month of the year in Estonia, this should help me to sleep enough.

February: No junk food – trying to live a healthier life, I will try to go without junk food for the month.

March: Celebrate love – my sister-in-law is getting married in March and we get to have a small holiday to be there with them. When would be the best time to celebrate love?

April: Save money – after our holiday, we probably need to check our budget and make sure we can save for our house.

May: Go for a walk – May is the perfect time to go for walks almost every day!

June: Drink enough water – as the summer arrives, need to make sure I am hydrated.

July: Keep on top of your running game – run, run, run, during my holidays in July, I should have enough time to focus on running.

August: Travel and celebrate our second anniversary.

September: Make the routine interesting – I will be back to work in September and need to make sure that going back to work will leave room for fun as well .

October: Educate myself – dark nights will be back and it is time to read some more.

November: Prepare for Christmas – the earlier you prepare, the less stress will be December.

December: Enjoy the season and savour the food – it is the most wonderful time of the year.

Here are some of my resolutions,

let me know about yours.
